George V. Wolstenholme, ASPRS
VP/COO

His career in construction began in 1955 as a laborer assisting in the construction of two single-family homes and the maintenance of nine efficiency cottages on Siesta Key, Florida.

George came to the company in both an interesting and unusual way, first encountering Steve as a young Sergeant in a topographic engineering company in West Germany which Steve commanded, then going on to serve with him in Vietnam. As each was continuously promoted, George becoming Steve‘s First Sergeant, a unique friendship, which became life long, developed based on mutual respect and recognition of the professional skills each brought to solving problems and completing the mission, often in a hostile environment. Rank was put aside.

In 1970, having just been appointed the Putnam Planning Director, Steve reached out to his friend to take on, once again, his role of First Sergeant; this time as a civilian, the Assistant County Planner. To do so would require George to leave the Corps of Engineers where at the time he was a Senior Master Instructor of Cartography/Photogrammetry, Army Engineer School, Ft. Belvoir, Va. Never looking back, he said that following Steve always felt right before and now was no different.

In 1975, along with Steve, he left Putnam County for Steve‘s family business and since then has been responsible for the day-to day operations.

In 1970, he returned to construction as the Assistant County Planner, reviewing and recommending approval for commercial and residential development and their compliance oversight, as well as assisting Steve in the supervision of the County‘s public works projects, notably the renovation of the County Office Building, the construction of the Highway Dept.‘s Office Building/Garage and the Donnsberg and Peekskill Lake Bridges. With the company, his responsibilities included estimating, specializing in site work and the photogrammetry and geotechnical company‘s divisions.

Some of the notable projects he supervised included NASA‘s Wallops Island Flight Center, Va., Norwalk, CT River Relocation, Environmental Impact Analysis for the Florida Keys, Geotechnical Analysis of Chester, Russell and Bainbridge Twps., Ohio., NYCDEP Kensico Reservoir Watershed Waste Water Management EIA and the Westhampton Beach Reclamation Erosion Control Project, NY Region Corps of Engineers.
